Google of course giving up search terms to cops πŸ”—
1602327086

🏷️ news
Either understand how search engines work, or people who do will have the upper hand. I wonder when it will be feasible to have "good enough" indexers capable of being a substitute under the control of the individual anytime soon. It will probably take a lot more storage than currently understood, or a much better way to compress the data...perhaps GPT3 is the real answer?

This is why I'm ultimately optimistic; the rise of extremist bolshevism on both sides is simply their desperation to cling to power which is rapidly slipping away.

Patio11: 4 years at stripe πŸ”—
1602159670

🏷️ news
My view on Stripe’s business prior to joining was β€œStripe is basically a B2B SaaS company with extremely reliable capture of upside when users succeed.” I believe that substantially underappreciates the actual business. Large portions of Stripe’s business add another loop on top of the B2B SaaS loop, where Stripe is effectively indexing on its ability to grow the count and success of customers who are themselves structurally equivalent6 to B2B SaaS companies.

Combine this model and what a former colleague dubbed Patio11’s Law (β€œThe software economy is larger than you think, even after taking into account Patio11’s Law”) and you have my biggest surprise since joining Stripe.

I believe that Stripe likely has another trick to play, which plausibly includes a loop on top of this one, where Stripe will perhaps index on the number and success of companies which index on the number and success of their customers, where those customers are structurally equivalent to B2B SaaS companies, who index on the number and success of their customers.
I've seen this multi-level thing at other companies -- this is actually more common than believed. I may discuss this on a cast soon.

Bandar on why the Arabs have given up on the Palestinians πŸ”—
1602066510

🏷️ news
In summary: they're a bunch of losers who couldn't win with all our powers combined. The palestinian strategy has been garbage since day 1, and their leaders always venal and corrupt. All it would have taken is a few Michael Collinses and it woulda been over a long time ago.

🏷️ news
Nobody in power is taking action in the ways that matter -- e.g. wishing for his death publicly or conspiring privately to make it so.

The lesson here is that if you care at all about his health (I don't) you are being manipulated. He's not a Hitler, just another gangster running a bust out on the USG.

By trying to build a pan-turkish alliance to prop up their aggression they're stepping on some very powerful toes. Erdogan's economic mismanagement has also painted himself into the corner where he has to make good on his bellicosity.
