He isnβt prepared to accept the costs of victory or the burden of heroism. He does not hold fast to fact, reason and logic in the face of the maelstrom because he does not possess the heroic manly virtue of courage. The orderliness, certainty and strength of manhood isnβt enough to quiet his troubled soul. At a minute to midnight, with the hounds on his tail, Peterson choosesβ¦ to believe all women.
Ultimately, the guy has struggled with depression forever, and like all head-shrinkers most of their failings can be chalked up to "physician heal thyself". I've never known anyone who describes themselves as depressed be brave people ever. The cover of Vox's book (Peterson in a strait jacket) basically hits the nail on the head.
Meaning is entirely subjective for Peterson, because he accepts this Enlightenment distinction. Thatβs why he talks about religion as though it were a sort of psychic medicine. And, critically, thatβs why heβs a Marxistβeven though he claims to hate Marxism. He believes in the end to which Marx tends, and only hates Marx because Marxism fails to get us there. This is why Petersonβs discussions with Sam Harris are so boring. He canβt get past trying to make Harris agree that evil is the same as suffering. Marxism is the unkeepable promise of a release from suffering by earthly means, and this is Petersonβs entire project.
Ultimately praxeology and Christ are the only ways out. This doesn't mean Peterson isn't a gateway drug to enlightenment much like Ron Paul -- however he doesn't have near the fortitude. This is probably why he's hobnobbing with the trilateral comission now. Peterson is the start of an
elite realignment rather than mass enlightenment as such.
