It's interesting to consider the possibility that the Mithric cult and Christianity both grew out of grifting exiles currying favor in the imperial bureaucracy. I'm starting to realize how much of our culture and beliefs on so many levels are actually cast-offs from simple self-interested clout chasing. Then, like now, the clerisy and what they believe is what actually matters in the end.
