This period in history is akin to the time of the crusaders of Christianity; replacing Christianity with Islam. In fairness to Islam, the Church that led the crusaders did not reform. It was the Western mind that reformed and in its rejection to the Church has managed to liberate itself from its yoke.

This guy really gets it. The problem is insane fiqh, not the scripture. Just like bad interpretations lead Christians and Jews into the deciever's arms, so too it is with Islamic Fundamentalism. They need to have their protestant reformation.

It's unsurprising that the conservatives say "it's not an inaccurate interpretation!", as they too hold authoritarian and excessively literal/selective interpretations of their own religions.
