The police have been writing this script for a very long time. Whether someone finally decided to start dropping hammers on them or the police themselves are giving it a hand doesn't really matter at this point. Supposedly the kops have already (conveniently) killed all the suspects. Guess we'll probably never know the truth to this one.

BONUS: At least the DPD is busy chasing completely innocent bystanders for no reason:
